2012 to see 60 Jumeriah Hotels
 
18 Oct. 2008 Dubai-based luxury hotel company, Jumeirah Group is all set to roll out its global expansion plan amidst the international economic turmoil. The company plans to function 60 hotels by 2012. Jumeirah Group is owned by The Government of Dubai and currently runs the prestigious Burj Al Arab Hotel, owns eight hotels in Dubai and has signed five new hotels very recently. Now Jumeirah Group has 19 new properties in the development stage and currently manages 11 hotels and resorts. The latest statement came with the appointment of Jumeirah to manage Jumeirah Bali Resort in Indonesia, Jumeirah Maldives Resort in the South Malé Atoll, Jumeirah Al Salam Resort in Bahrain, Jumeirah Al Salam Yiti Resort in Oman, and Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel in Kuwait. In the next three years five new hotels and resorts are scheduled to be opened. This proclamation comes in addition to latest announcement of hotels in Guangzhou, Glasgow and St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. The Jumeriah Management is concerned about the shortage of trained staff in the industry and they are actively carrying out consultations in the Philippines and Shanghai to set up hotel management institutions that would train hotel staff for its upcoming projects. Jumeirah will open its first hotel in Shanghai, China early next year following an expansion plan of 10 hotels in the Chinese mainland. No timeline report was available as of when these developments will be functional. These projects eye on the Chinese luxury market. The group has not yet planned any expansions in Europe and United States though three fourth of its business come from European, American and Middle East Guests.
