14 Oct. 2008
Dubai international airport has crossed another milestone with its newly built Terminal 3 becoming partially operational. The first flight to hit the skies was Dubai's national airline Emirates - EK 843, A330-200 to Doha with 136 passengers and 73 pieces of baggage weighing 1000 kilos. The flight took off at 14:15 local time from Gate No: 213 with 4 passengers in first class, 27 in business class and 115 in economy class. Dubai's tourism and hospitality industry is said to have conceived an immense deal of dream by expecting a fair share of passengers turning out to be short stayers; tourists and business visitors who largely contribute the growth of the industry.
Chairman and CEO of Emirates Airline and Group Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum extended his gratitude and congratulated his staff for their utmost commitment and great teamwork. Staff from Emirates Airport Services and Dnata including concierge and porter services, check-in and information counters, and all the lounges - Unaccompanied Minors, Special Services, Customer Services, Marhaba, First and Business Class - in the terminal and concourse were present on this auspicious occasion.
Starting from 15 October, Emirates flights operating in GCC and the Americas which amount nearly 15 per cent of the airline's total services will take off and arrive at Terminal 3. Phase 2 which is due to be launched shortly will include flights to other parts of the Middle East and Africa. This will increase operations to 99 flights every day, 59 flights more than the initial phase totalling up to 37% of the fleet. Traffic to Europe will be included as the third phase covering 60% of Emirates Flights, the daily figure at this stage will be 168. Indian Subcontinent, East Asia and Australasia will be covered in the fourth phase increasing the operation to 269 flights per day.
Emirates Terminal 3 is a class of its kind and much more than a conventional airport terminal. It has great dining; spectacular views, fabulous shopping and world-class lounges. Passengers can chose to relax, avail spa treatments, shop or use the facilities of the designer lounges without breaking up usual business activities and lifestyle.
